All tutors at International Music School Cardiff are hand-picked, highly trained professional musicians with an enthusiasm for teaching their instrument. Lessons take place in our city-centre venue, and it is our vision to create a place where music tuition of the highest quality is delivered alongside regular professional concerts and public performance opportunities for our students.

What should you expect from harp lessons?

A typical harp lesson will provide the student with essential knowledge of technique whilst gaining a sense of enjoyment and self-esteem. Harp lessons will be tailored around the student depending on the style of music they’d like to learn and the standard they hope to achieve. Primary school children will be taught on a lever harp while older students can be taught on the pedal harp. If you have determination, patience, enthusiasm and a love for Welsh music then the harp is the right instrument for you. Oh, and you will need a big car too!

A little bit about the instrument

The harp is one of the most fascinating and beautiful instruments in the orchestra. Often associated with angels, heaven and mythology, the harp produces ethereal sound with 47 strings of varying lengths strung on the triangular frame. A harp weighs between 31-42kg and it is known that around 5000 years ago harps existed in ancient Egypt.

Much like the piano, the harp is often used as an accompanying instrument. Famous singers such as Welsh superstar Bryn Terfel often sing with harp accompaniment.
